LIVE REVIEW: Potty Mouth revisit MASS

Potty Mouth are Northampton, MA natives that have only recently fled to the West Coast, but it was still a welcome homecoming as they headlined at the Middle East Club last Thursday night. After a moderately awkward start getting the mics to function, they strummed their Fenders with bravado and immediately took stride. Slamming into the set with their obnoxiously infectious single “Smash Hit,” the synchronized bass slides of Ally Einbender and lead Abby Weems placed the crowd into their grungy control. The track builds on their hooky rhythms from the self-titled release of 2015 with a whirlwind of pop dynamics. Blending more yet to be released material into the night, they peppered the crowd with a taste of what’s to come in their forthcoming LP. With the degree of punk, massive bubble gum hooking, and grunge aesthetics they’re developing, it’s building up to be one of my most anticipated albums in the new year.
